As Administrative Judge of the St. Louis County Family Court, Susan Block was no stranger to the heartbreaking situations of children in her courtroom. She frequently encountered underprivileged children whose basic necessities were not being met by existing legal and child welfare organizations due to limited resources or complicated procedures.
These children, who often came from families dealing with significant financial or emotional hardships, had experienced various forms of abuse or neglect and had pressing needs ranging from essential items like bus passes and school supplies to more significant requirements like eyeglasses or tutoring.
Judge Block’s frustration with deficiencies in the current system led her and other child advocates to take action. Together, they envisioned the creation of an organization to provide immediate and positive assistance to these vulnerable children, and thus Caring For Kids, Inc. was born in August 2003 through Judge Block’s outreach to community leaders.
Today, we are steadfast in our mission and continue to foster new relationships and partners in our community to serve children with urgent needs.
